BIOGRAPHY OF AN ACTOR, ANIMATOR, DIRECTOR, PRODUCER & TAEKWONDO MASTER
Born in Quebec, Canada to a family of five, Marcel Maroist developed an interest for sports at a young age, especially Martial Arts. Growing up, Marcel was inspired when he discovered Bruce Lee movies. Unlike other boys, his seriousness and determination brought him to join the Quebec Yoseikan Karate Federation at the age of 12. He became a black belt at the age of 20 and earned his 2nd degree black belt two years later.
But Marcel was always attracted to Taekwon-do and decided to join the ITF (International Taekwon-do Federation) in 1982 and a few years later became a 4th degree black belt in ITF.
Ambitious to compete, Maroist quickly became a member of the Canadian Taekwon-do Team (from 1982 to 1989) and participated in several international competitions worldwide. He competed in three World Championships: Scotland in 1984, Greece in 1987 and Hungary in 1988 and won three gold medals, five silver medals and one bronze medal. In 1982 Marcel opened his first Taekwon-do School. He has opened more than 12 schools and had more than 3,500 students under his wing at one point in his career! Marcel Maroist has taught more than 30,000 students.
1984 is marked by the birth of Marcel’s daughter, Katy-Ann. They share a passion for martial arts and sports and often have the opportunity to work and train together.
Marcel became the Canadian Taekwon-do Team coach in 1989 for both female and male teams. He lead his teams successfully winning the gold medal overall at the Pan Am Games in Honduras in 1989 and the silver medal overall at the Youth Festival in Pyongyang, North Korea in 1990. Soon after, Marcel joined the WTF (World Taekwondo Federation) that is recognized by the IOC (International Olympic Committee).
Marcel trained the Quebec Police SWAT team for over seven years, teaching them how to control criminals during crisis situations.
Marcel's passion for martial arts and sports brought him into the entertainment industry. He began by writing and producing TV segments about preventing attacks from criminals. He has always had a natural attraction to the broadcast industry and has been a part of various TV & movie projects throughout his career. He has been in numerous broadcasts as an actor and host throughout Quebec.
Ambitious to surpass himself, Maroist quickly became a respected sport and health figure in Quebec. From 1999 to 2003 he produced his own broadcasts, Cardio Tae Boxe and En Forme with Marcel Maroist. He produced daily shows for 4 consecutive years on a Quebec national network, TQS. Through his broadcasts, Marcel learned that people were eager to get in shape and decided to produce a series of workout DVDs, three Cardio Tae Boxe DVDs and one Taerobic DVD.
A lifelong dream and goal to produce his projects in the United States brought Marcel to settle in Los Angeles in July of 2003. He combined his passion for the film industry and his dedication to martial arts by becoming a private trainer for various actors and has created numerous broadcast projects and workout DVDs.
A Master 6th degree back belt in Taekwondo (WTF) for many years; Marcel's determination and perseverance drove him to obtain his 7th degree black belt in 2005.
In 2007, Marcel created his own production company Viking in Hollywood Inc., in Los Angeles. In 2009, he created, with his daughter, a production company in Montréal, Canada, Kat Film Inc. and produced two workout DVDs: MASS 101, volume 1 and Cardio Belly Dancing, volume 1. These DVD are on sale everywhere.
